The Control Of Asbestos
At Work regulations 2002 contain a new regulation 4, Duty to manage
asbestos in non domestic premises, This regulation is due to be enforced
by the H.S.E in may 2004.
Many people are under the impression that this regulation does not
apply to them, because asbestos was used a long time ago and their
building is not old enough to contain asbestos, This is a total misconception
as asbestos was used in over 3000 different products, some still in
manufacture until 1999. Many of these products were of a type that
you would not expect to contain asbestos e.g. toilet cisterns, floor
tiles, church organs, to name but a few.
The attitude of the H.S.E is that ignorance is no defence; you should
take appropriate steps to find out if any asbestos materials are present
in your buildings and formulate a management plan to protect everybody
from exposure to asbestos fibres.
In order to fully comply with the current regulations an asbestos
survey should be carried out by a properly trained asbestos surveyor.

All
surveyors
and consultants at T.E.C have a minimum of 10 years experience
in the asbestos industry, providing solutions to each
client’s specific needs. Due to the extent of our experience
we have found asbestos materials in places not even other asbestos
surveyors would even think of looking.
